Why should I train in Aikido?
Fitness, Health (Mental and Physical), discipline and self-defense.
We all have different goals in life but in regards to physical activities, this is what I am looking for.
Working 5 to 6 days a week and high stress level and sometimes lack of sleep. can have dramatic consequences if it is not balanced with a physical activity.
Aikido could be the solution to reduce stress and help with sleep.
Personally, I started Aikido a long time ago because I was experiencing some lower back pain and I was gaining some weight. Working in an office is really not beneficial to our health. The body is not made to sit for hours and hours. It has been found that a new causative factor for lung cancer is sitting at a desk for hours.
Sedentary lifestyle increases the risk to many conditions: high cholesterol, weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure. Changing a lifestyle can have beneficial consequences on health. It is better to prevent any of the above conditions but it is never to late to start.
Physical activities also increase immunity so there is less risks of getting sick. Today, with the Covid-19 pandemic, it is a good time to strengthen your immunity and to be attentive to our health.
I believe the first line of self-defense is to take care of your health. Aikido provides not only physical fitness but also mental fitness as well. We will discuss discipline on a different blog.
